Welcome to San Ysidro, California!

Welcome to San Ysidro, gateway to the Americas and home of the world's busiest international border crossing. Approximately 65,000 cars and 45,000 pedestrians enter the United States every day at the international port of entry between San Ysidro, California and Tijuana, Mexico.

Begun as an experiment to preserve rural America, San Ysidro has emerged as a dynamic multicultural community characterized by closely-knit neighborhoods and a blend of two cultures. San Ysidro's neighborhoods include streets of older homes with well-tended gardens where residents still know their neighbors — and newer urban developments. Among them are the planned Mi Pueblo urban village and the fast growning border community of Otay Mesa. The 2000 census counted 161,982 residents in the greater San Ysidro area.

San Ysidro lies 20 miles south of downtown San Diego and just north of Tijuana on the California coast. It was annexed by the City of San Diego in 1957. San Ysidro is blessed with beautiful year-round weather; the average rainfall in is just 9.5 inches per year, the average low temperature is 49 degrees F, and the average high temperature is comfortable 79 degrees F.

San Ysidro's bustling commercial district is a destination for duty-free and outlet shopping, with hundreds of leading brands represented.
