Sweetwater Union High School District
The Sweetwater District serves students in grades 7-12 and adult learners in the California communities of Bonita, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, Otay Mesa, San Ysidro and South San Diego. Sweetwater is the largest secondary system in California, serving more than 35,000 students at 21 schools and 41,000 adult learners at five campuses.

San Ysidro High School opened in 2002 with ninth-graders only. It added 10th grade in 2003 and 11th-graders that summer and as of 2005 had 1,750 students. District planners project more than 3,000 students at the school in 2007. San Ysidro High School students who take college preparation courses and earn a B average are guaranteed admission to San Diego State University as part of Sweetwater Union High School District and San Diego State's "Compact for Success."
